Keyboardist Bernie Worrell certainly shone the light on keyboard bass on Parliament's 'Flash Light.' It was also was another entry in the escapades of Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk and the fictional, tripped-out denizens of George Clinton's loopy universe, which included actual landings of motherships on elaborately decorated stages. You had to be there; remember this was the era of Star Wars. 'Flash Light' lit on the number one R&B spot for three weeks, shining on number 16 pop in the spring of 1978. The success of the single prompted fans to wave around flashlights during the band's performances. Clinton cashed in on the craze, licensing Parliament flashlights which sold in the thousands.
